Shopify fees explained for 2026: plans, card rates and extras

Checked against the live sources below on 27 October 2026.

On Shopify’s pricing page today, Basic is $29 a month billed yearly ($39 month to month), Grow $79 ($105), Advanced $299 ($399), and Plus starts at $2,300. Online card rates fall from 2.9% + 30¢ on Basic to 2.25% + 30¢ on Plus, and using another payment provider adds a transaction fee.

Monthly plan prices

Shopify’s pricing page lists, in US dollars: Basic $29 a month paid yearly or $39 paid monthly; Grow $79 or $105; Advanced $299 or $399; Plus from $2,300 a month. It offers a 3-day free trial, then $1 a month for the first 3 months on most plans, before standard pricing starts. Prices differ by country and change, so confirm on the page.

Remember what the plan price does not include: apps, themes, your domain and any extra payment fees. Add those to your own fixed-cost list before you compare plans.

Card rates with Shopify Payments

PlanOnline cardPremium cardIn person
Basic2.9% + 30¢3.5% + 30¢2.6% + 10¢
Grow2.7% + 30¢3.3% + 30¢2.5% + 10¢
Advanced2.5% + 30¢3.1% + 30¢2.4% + 10¢
Plus2.25% + 30¢2.95% + 30¢2.3% + 10¢

The same page lists an extra 1% for online international rates, and PayPal wallet rates starting at 3.49% + 49¢.

How to read the table: the percentage applies to the order value and the fixed amount applies once per transaction, so small orders feel the fixed part most. A $10 order on Basic pays $0.29 + $0.30 = $0.59, almost 6%.

Third-party payment provider fees

If you use a payment provider other than Shopify Payments, the pricing page lists a third-party transaction fee of 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow, 0.6% on Advanced and 0.2% on Plus. That is on top of whatever your provider charges. On a $100 sale on Basic, 2% is $2.00 charged by Shopify before your provider’s own fee. Compare the total cost under each option, including your provider’s own fee, rather than one line.

This page does not cover taxes, duties, apps, themes, shipping labels or currency conversion, and Shopify’s pricing page does not list a single currency-conversion rate, so check your own settings for that.

A worked example

A $50 online order on Basic with a standard card: 2.9% of $50 is $1.45, plus $0.30, so $1.75 in card fees, or 3.5% of the order. The same order on Grow costs $1.35 + $0.30 = $1.65. Plan price is a fixed monthly cost, so the break point depends on your volume. Billing yearly rather than monthly saves the difference shown on the page: for Basic, $29 × 12 = $348 against $39 × 12 = $468, or $120 a year.
